Deputy Chief Jay Jonas, FDNY
On the morning of September 11th, 2001, the day began no differently than any other for Ladder Co. 6 in the Chinatown section of New York City, Then at 8:48 A.M., the first of two planes crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Ladder Co. 6 arrived on the scene to witness the horror firsthand and a second plane hitting The South Tower. Making their way up to The North Tower, floor after floor getting to the 27th, they heard a rumble like an earthquake and felt a rush of air like a loud jet engine. The South Tower has collapsed with fury. Deputy Cheif Jay Jonas informed his men that it was time to evacuate and go home. Somewhere around the 20th floor, they encountered Josephine Harris, who had walked from the 72nd floor. She was assisted down the stairway by firefighters Tommy Falco and Billy Butler. At the fourth floor, Ms. Harris could no longer walk. It was at the fourth floor when the North Tower began to collapse. MacRae Speakers & Entertainment is proud to present a true American hero, Deputy Chief Jay Jonas of the F.D.N.Y.
