Jussie Smollett stars as the talented son Jamal Lyon in FOX’s music industry award-winning show EMPIRE, from producer / director Lee Daniels. His role allows him to blend both his acting and musical skills in the high-octane fueled drama.

Smollett recently confirmed in a backstage interview with Ellen DeGeneres that he was gay, “There’s never been a closet that I’ve been in.”

He has been an activist since the age of six when his mother brought him to a protest march over the shooting of Yusef Hawkins in 1989.

Smollett has become a member of JUSTICE LEAGUE NYC / MARCH2JUSTICE, for Black men and women including transgender and non conforming individuals, the incarcerated, undocumented people, our heroes in Selma who risked everything, and all others in the margins and intersections who are all disproportionately impacted by police violence and systemic racism.
